With 2 kiddos running around and another on the way, I typically have less than 5 minutes on any given day to throw on any makeup at all. While I do like going bared faced, I also really love makeup, so making those 5 minutes count is absolutely key. My essentials help me even my skin tone, which can be very red, and highlight my eyes, my favorite feature.
Color Correcting Primer
My no-makeup makeup routine starts with great skincare, lots of moisturizer, and a color correcting primer. I have sensitive skin that’s prone to a lot of redness, so I opt for a green tinted primer from Makeup Forever. I do tend to have a really oil t-zone, but because my skincare routine already focuses on reducing oil, I use the primer with a natural finish over a matte one. I find too much mattifying products can actually end up drying me out, causing my skin to absolutely freak and product twice the oil.
Whether I’m giving my skin a break or just going for a less heavy feeling face, my no-makeup makeup look actually doesn’t involve any foundation at all. The color correcting primer does a beautiful job of evening out my skin, and a quick brush of translucent powder, like my current favorite from NYX, sets everything nicely. I prefer a pressed powder to a loose powder, because it gives me more control over how much I’m applying.
Glossier’s Boy Brow
Glossier’s Boy Brow, touted a brow gel replacement, first caught my eye on a Facebook ad of all places. I ordered it right away, and it’s become a staple in my makeup routine. It’s even more important on my no-makeup makeup days when I want a more natural look than Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Dipbrow can give me. I typically swipe this on as a brow prep anytime I’m wearing makeup. It keeps my brows in shape all day and gives them a bit more fluff and fill, if you know what I mean.
Smashbox’s Full Exposure mascara holds my heart for being my favorite mascara of all time, as it is hands down the best I’ve ever used for volume, length, and fullness that doesn’t look clumpy or cakey. However, it’s a bit much for my no-makeup makeup look. For those days, my go-to is a lengthening and volumizing mascara from E.L.F. It’s only a few dollars, lasts 12+ hours without running, and gives me a fabulous excuse to hit up Target. To get just one thing, of course.
As a mostly vegetarian, I try to be as animal-friendly in my makeup routine as possible. It’s why I love brands like Glossier and Pacifica so much. So when I was looking for a new vegan and cruelty-free lip balm, I was super siked to find out about Pacifica’s un-tinted naked quench balm. This perfectly finishes out my natural makeup and gives me a moisturized look on my lips that isn’t shiny or sticky.
Logical Harmony has even more suggestions if you’re also in search of a new cruelty-free balm.
Whether I’m wearing a little bit of makeup or a lot of it, I always, always, always use a setting spray. It keeps everything right where I put it and gives me a slightly dewy finish, which I absolutely love especially on no-makeup makeup days. I use the one and only Urban Decay All Nighter setting spray, and for good reason: this baby kept my makeup absolutely perfect for a full day of outdoor wedding festivities in a full gown under the Georgia summer sun plus an evening of bar hopping with the bride and groom. Now that’s amazing!
